Could you please clean your room?

Teaching Aims and Demands:

1.Knowledge Objects

Words and expressions:

Take out, trash, chore, do chores, do the dishes, fold, living room, work on ,get a ride

Target Language:

  Could you please clean your room?

  Sorry, I can’t. I have to do my homework.

  Yes, sure.

  No, you can’t. I have to go out.

2.Ability Objects

   To train students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

   To train students to know how to make polite requests and ask for permission.

3.Moral Objects

   To enable students to know that they can do some chores on their own actively.

Teaching Key Points

   To learn the key vocabulary and the target language.

Teaching Difficult Points

To improve students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

To enable students to grasp the usage of the structure “Could you please…..?”

.Teaching Procedures

Step1.Revision and presentation

 Revise Can you/I…..?

 Ask students some questions and help them answer. e.g:

---Can you open the door?   ---Of course.

---Can I go home?         ---Sorry, you can’t.

---Can I play basketball?    ---Yes, you can.

Then say: There is a more polite way to ask this question:

---Could I please go home?        ---Yes, of course.

---Could I please play basketball?   ---Yes, sure.

Step2.New words and expressions.

Show the slides to the students. Get them to look at the screen. Help them to know what each word and expression means and how to pronounce them accurately and fluently.

Invite a few students to read them

Step 3.Ask and answer

Look at the screen. Give the students three minutes to ask and answer questions.

Can you do these chores?

Do you do these chores at home?

What kind of chores can you do ?

Can you act them out?

Step4.1b

Get the students to look at the instructions and the chart on the screen. Make sure that they know what to do.

Play the recording the first time .Students only listen.

Play the recording a second time .Students listen and then check the answers with the students.

Step5.1c

Show the slides to the students. Students work in pairs, using:

---Could you please …..

---Yes ,sure.

Invite some pairs to act out their conversations.

Step6.2a,2b

Students look at the screen. Play the recording for them to listen and complete 2a and 2b.

Check the answers.

Explain: stay out late, get a ride, have a test

Step 7. Make sentences

Have the students make sentences, using “Could you/I please….?”and the new words, expressions in this unit.

Step 8.Pairwork

Let the students work in pairs and make conversations. Invite several pairs to act them out.

Step 9. Summary
